Dhrupad, the ancient most form of Indian Classical Music is very less heard on Sarod accompanied on Pakhawaj. "Dhrupad Sarod" is a new concept & special form of Sarod recital conceptualized & exclusively performed globally by Debanjan Bhattacharjee with Pakhawaj on accompaniment. This unique presentation comprises of Dhrupad style compositions in Dhrupad Talas accompanied solely by Pakhawaj (or sometimes both the Dhrupad and Khayal styles with Pakhawaj & Tabla). Debanjan had the rare honour of presenting his new initiative " Dhrupad Sarod " in the biggest Latin American Music Festival - Internacional Cervantino as an Indian Cultural Diplomat and also in various Indian states nationally upon invitation from the Ministry of External Affairs. Dhrupad Sarod has been promoted by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Govt. of India through detailed coverage in Doordarshan and All India Radio. Dhrupad Sarod has been promoted by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. Dhrupad Sarod has also been promoted by Govt. of West Bengal, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Tamilnadu and Kerala.
In the last few months, Debanjan has performed Dhrupad Sarod in the prestigious festivals - Cervantino (biggest Music Festival of Latin America), Canada, Dhrupad Mela (Varanasi), Prayag Sangeet Sammelan (Allahabad), Rajya Sangeet Academy Annual Conference (Kolkata), Kochi Festival, National Dhrupad Samaroh (Darbhanga), Trisaptika Samaroh (Bokaro), Nadd Festival and many such festivals in Telengana, Kerala, Tamilnadu, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal.
Debanjan's pioneering work of introducing exclusive Dhrupad on Sarod has been highly appreciated by his own Guru Sarode maestro Ustad Aashish Khan and also legendary Dhrupad stalwarts Late Ustad Sayeeduddin Dagar, Pandit Ramakant and Umakant Gundecha, Ustad Nafisuddin and Anisuddin Dagar, Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar, Pandit Dalchand Sharma, Pandit Mohan Shyam Sharma, Pandit Manick Munde and many others.
